Kevin Durant gives his answer after Anthony Edwards basically tells him, “The future is now, old man.”

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Edwards was the star of Saturday’s Game 1 against Durant and the Phoenix Suns. He finished with 33 points, nine rebounds and six assists as the Timberwolves defeated the Suns in the finals 120-95.

After hitting a particularly cold three-pointer to Durant’s face in the second half, Edwards danced onto the floor again and talked trash to Durant, sending the internet into an uproar. You can see the video here.

Former MVP Durant was asked about Edwards’ trash talk after the game.

“Yeah, it’s just basketball,” Durant said, according to Suns writer Gerald Bourguet. “Not even playoffs, it’s just hoops. You’ll get hot, you’ll make shots, you’ll make hard shots, you’ll get excited about yourself. So it’s up to me to keep coming back.”

At 35 years old, Durant has seen a lot during his time in the league and knows he will have plenty of opportunities to respond over the course of the seven-game series against the Timberwolves. But that was still a pretty cool moment to see from a young, confident, rising superstar like 22-year-old Edwards. That was especially true because Durant is usually seen as the master of trash talk.
