Memphis, TENN. — Memphis 901 FC lost 2-1 to Monterey Bay FC on Saturday evening at AutoZone Park.

The Beale Street Boys scored a goal in the first minute of the match, but were unable to hold off a Monterey comeback in the second half.

Memphis took the early lead on the set piece when Bruno Lapa whipped a cross into the penalty area. The pressure of the 901 FC attack and the commotion of the Monterey defense caused chaos before a wayward ball bounced off a visiting defender and into the net, giving the Beale Street Boys the lead in the opening minute.

901 FC scored 18 shots with five on target, but could not equalize in a brave comeback.

Memphis 901 FC will take on rival Birmingham Legion FC at the Protective Stadium on Saturday, April 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM CT on ESPN+ and locally on WMC Action News 5 Plus.
