Hokies wrap up the three-meet weekend

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams wrapped up their three-match weekend at the USC Open on Saturday.

Sophomore Conner McClure won the men’s pole vault with a jump of 17′ 11.25″ (5.47 m). McClure was the only athlete in the 21-man field to clear 5.37 m. Teammate Maddox Hamm finished second clearing at 17′ 3.50″ (5.27 m) on his second attempt.

Senior Travel Gurley tied for second place among collegiate athletes in the women’s pole vault, clearing the bar at a height of 4.25 m (13′ 11.25″). Chiara Sistemann, Erin KelleherAnd Kennedy Drish tied for fourth place at 12′ 9.50″ (3.90 m).

In Charlottesville, Sara Killinen finished second in the hammer throw among collegiate athletes with a season-best mark of 222′ 10″ (67.92 m) in the second round. Killinen moved to sixth on the NCAA performance list and first in the ACC. She is the only female athlete in the conference to swim more than 63 meters this season.

Sophomore Katrin Brzyszkowska claimed first place in the women’s shot put with a first round of 54′ 0.25″ (16.47 m).

Aidan Clark placed first in the men’s high jump, clearing the bar at a height of 7′ 0.25 (2.14 m). Brandon Burke finished third jumping at 6′ 11″ (2.11m), followed by E. J. Bell in fifth place at 6′ 9″ (2.06 m).

Seniors on Friday Lindsey Butler recorded her fifth program record at Virginia Tech in the 1500m invitational at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. Butler finished third among collegiate athletes with a personal best time of 4:07.96.

Next one
Sprints, Jumps and Pole Vaults travel back to Florida to compete in the East Coast Relays in Jacksonville on April 26-27. Throws travel to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the Drake Relays.
