Miccio clutch in DH Sweep

The beat continues to play for the University of Hartford softball team as the Hawks claimed their fourth straight doubleheader sweep, taking a pair of games from Nichols on Saturday at Hartford Softball Field.

GAME ONE: HARTFORD 4, NICHOLS 0
Sophomore Carly Mayhood (9-2) allowed just four hits in recording its first complete game shutout of the season as the Hawks took the opener.

Hartford opened the scoring in the second inning when freshman Haley Pruitt drove home freshman Adelie Beebewho opened the frame with a single, on a two-out single.

Back-to-back doubles by Beebe and sophomores Taylor Fitch capped the three-run third inning as Hartford took advantage of a pair of Nichols errors to score three unearned runs.

Mayhood handled the Bison the rest of the game for the win.

Beebe and Fitch both went 2-for-3 in the game, with Beebe scoring two runs.

GAME TWO: HARTFORD 6, NICHOLS 5 (9 INN.)
Sophomore Gia Miccio had four productive trips to the plate, the last a sacrifice fly that produced the winning run in the bottom of the eighth as Hartford completed the sweep.

Miccio was almost single-handedly responsible for the tying run in the seventh inning. She led off the inning with a single, advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a throwing error on the same play. She finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

After Nichols took the lead in the first inning, it was Miccio who sparked the third three-run run with the Hawks’ first hit of the game, a single. She came around the tying run score on a sophomore single Shailynn Williamswho would score the third run of the inning.

The Bison took the lead with a run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth.
